We spoke for a few more minutes and tossed some ideas around to flesh out the story. I think he's got a great story brewing and hope he writes it.
It will be a great love story.
I asked him if he was a writer and he said "Yes,, but he had a full time job as well. It's hard to make a living as a writer in Canada." I agreed with him and asked him if he was published. His answered didn't surprise me, it made me sad. He said very sheepishly, "Yes, but I'm not much of a writer." The next words out of my mouth were"But you are a writer - You've been published."
There are thousands of writers living in Canada who have never been published, never submitted an article or story anywhere. I was one but then I had an opportunity to write articles for a couple of newsletters. I loved the thrill of seeing my words published across Canada and the United States.
Even with that success it has only been a few months that I've called myself a writer.
I urge the writer and artists out there... write, create, sing, dance, act! perform your art... the world needs you and you need to enjoy your art.
To the guy I met in the pub... I want to read your story, I think you're onto something and should share it.
